Where The Walls Surround Us

Does any one else ever feel confined by the indoors? Not just necessarily being indoors, but by the thought of walls in general?! I've been feeling this way lately. While I am naturally kind of an outdoors girl, I don't mind being inside at all as long as I'm in a comfortable environment. But recently I can't help but feel surrounded and under pressure by certain walls, both physically and the mental ones that we has humans build up.

This weekend I took a mini vacation home to Minneapolis, and it always shocks me how much I miss the city and all of the people that live in it. I think that's the thing about cities; despite the rather high population densities I just feel like there's so much more space for people to be themselves. On my homeward travels via train, I got the chance to just take time to relax and watch the land pass by. It got me thinking about all of the wonderful opportunities that land brings with it. The possibilities are just endless!

Speaking of confining walls, I've also decided that being outdoors for photoshoots is much more suiting for me, I guess it's just a little more... comfortable. But after a few shoots outdoors Ryan, Aubree (isn't she adorable, see above!), and I decided to shake things up and venture to the basement of our art building on campus. Let's just say I think these were the first and only sets in that room.

Anyways, I hope that everyone enjoyed this truly beautiful day!

Crayola Bold Markers

It has been a very long and eventful unpredicted week and weekend. I feel a little like this blog and I are starting off on the wrong foot. I am so sorry blog, I hope you'll forgive me. As soon as I get caught up on my projects & assignments I think that we will be the best of friends!

The weather in Minnesota has been just lovely this last week and is suppose to do nothing but continue! Today I even wore my first dress sans cardigan and tights! Which is why looking at these photos makes me feel lingering sad feelings. They were taken a few weeks ago when it was still rather grey out all of the time. But I love how much this outfit makes me stand out against the dead background and brown tones. I truly felt like a pack of crayola bold colored markers all day long, and loved (almost) every minute of it!

Both the skirt and tights are two rather new purchases from a Mall of America excursion not too long ago. That place is so much fun, but rather intimidating. Which exactly how I feel about these two articles of clothing. They are both so bold and interesting that they match eachother in all of right but wrong ways! I can't wait to pair them each with different things and see the out come.

Now it's time for me to return to my paper on the Charles Bukowski poem "Mama". If you've never read his poetry before I highly recommend it. He was the most wonderfully gritty & grimmy drunk ever:

here I am
in the ground
my mouth
open
and
I can't even say
mama,
and
the dogs run by and stop and piss
on my stone; I get it all
except the sun
and my suit is looking
bad
and yesterday
the last of my left
arm gone
very little left, all harp-like
without music.

at least a drunk
in bed with a cigarette
might cause 5 fire
engines and
33 men.

I can't
do
any
thing.

but p.s. -- Hector Richmond in the next
tomb thinks only of Mozart and candy
caterpillars.
he is
very bad
company.

Jumping in Feet First

Welcome to my first blog post everyone! I suppose I should start by thanking the lovely ladies in my links column for unknowingly inspiring me to create this window into my life. I stumbled upon Sally Jane Vintage after I brought home a beauty of a vintage high waisted skirt from the thrift store and had no idea at all how to style it, and well it just kind of took of from there. Next thing I knew I started checking blogs everyday and found myself increasingly wanting to become part of this wonderful community that was brand new to me. So here I am, jumping in feet first. Please bear with me as I adjust myself to these new surroundings, as I'm sure I'll be making constant changes for a while. I know that it's a long and hard climb up, but I'm really looking forward to the challenge and all of the wonderful posibilities!

I started taking outfit photos about two weeks ago in preperation for this day, and started accumulating them fast. I'm at art student at my college in Saint Cloud, Minnesota and with the warm weather starting to peak it's head out I've been having no problems at all locating friends whom want to bust out their cameras for a half hour! So in anticipation I think I'll share with you my first two photo adventures.

These photographs were taken by my best friend in the Saint Cloud area, Aubree. She's a wonderful gal who has been so inspiring, supportive, and helpful in my decision to start this blog! It was one of the first really nice days in Minnesota so we decided to take a trip to our local flower garden!

Seeing as how I tend to be more comfortable in familiar places, a few days later my boyfriend Ryan & I went back to the flower gardens for round two. This day was much cooler than we had previously been spoiled with. But I didn't mind at all, because it gave me an excuse to wear my brand new cape that I had just purchased from Savers and am IN LOVE with! I spotted a similar one on Rebecca of The Clothes Horse just a week or two before and thought to myself where can I find one of those beauties?! Low and behold next Saver's trip, a perfect one featuring almost all of my favorite colors! It was ten dollars, which I'm pretty sure is the most I've ever spent on a thrifted item, but I could just picture all of the lovely times we will have together this summer around bonfires and fall time walks. I probably would have wept in the car if I had left with out it!

Sorry that my first post is rather long, I tend to be pretty wordy, especially when I'm excited! Now it's off to catch up on my reading and enjoy the quiet before the boy gets back from celebrating a friend's 21st birthday!
